Video: Undun

Evening to you. If you haven't heard The Roots latest concept album 'Undun', this is a perfect introduction. This short film IS art and so well done.  I won't try to explain it to you, i'll just let you form your own opinions. One thing though..... peep the quotes.  Check it out.

Thoughts on WSHH

Peace and no ordinary love. In light of recent events, I wanted to share with you a video on why you shouldn't support WSHH. Although I think people should support what they want, I strongly urge you not to indulge in the garbage that is WorldStarHipHop. Every time I come across a video from said website, it always promotes some type of negativity/violence. It promotes so much hate that it's saddening. I have never heard anything positive come from it, only folks being killed, or beaten, or music videos that appear to imitate Hip hop.  What makes it even more upsetting is that it has the words Hip hop in the title and yet it has nothing to do with Hip Hop. Period. I just feel like if they want to promote garbage, do us all a favor and take "Hip hop" off. Thanks.

This video is some months old but it still gets the point across.

Mixtape: The ASAP Tape

Afternoon music heads. Pray you are making it through the week smoothly. I have another mixtape to present to you all the way from the west side. MC's Donte Peace and Seattle based music group Fresh Preserves' very own Harlem Brown come together to give us way more than the average joe rappers that flood our tainted air waves. Although Titled 'The ASAP Tape', Do not be turned off by the name because these two are nothing like rapper ASAP Rocky. Donte Peace and Halrem of Fresh Preserves (which consists of Producer B. Roc, MC's Mike Mack and Harlem Brown) have a refreshing sound with a bit of soul in the mix. There is a distinctiveness within their flow that separates them from others but still lets you know they're from the west coast. I also noticed their ability to switch up the flows and do it with grace. They definitely have the skills to really put them and Seattle on the map. No crazy antics, just realness and I respect that. This the first I have heard of them and it puts Seattle in a VERY positive light for hip hop.  If you like this please be sure to check out Fresh Preserves other project The Deep End as well. Looking forward to hearing more in the future and sharing it with you as well. Check it out, Download and Track list below.

Mixtape: Mickey MauSe By Mickey Factz

Bronx Rapper Mickey Factz releases his latest mixtape and give it all and then some. This mixtape screams nostalgia and definitely opens up the ears with his quick wit and versatility. He takes a step outside the box and decides to work with producer/songwriter Danger mouse and Electronic/ House producer Deadmau5. Danger Mouse is widely known for his concoction which is better known as the 'Grey Album' (The Beatles 'White album' and Jay-z's 'Black Album' put together). You can definitely tell exactly what he is passionate about when listening to any of these songs. Factz is speaking the truth. Much Respect.

Excerpt from a memoir:
"I was privileged to grow up at a time where art was art... to us. It didn't belong to the rich, the pretentious, the snobs.... it belonged to us. We set the tone for what people wanted and needed to see."

Song Release: Kendrick Lamar- The Recipe

A couple of days ago Kendrick Lamar and Dr. Dre released what perhaps could be a new Cali anthem. The titled track The Recipe definitely has the California vibe written all over it and knocks just as hard. As always Kendrick Lamar's flow is nasty and I wouldn't expect anything less. Kudos to him for making Dre relevant again, even it's obvious that Kendrick wrote his verse. Doesn't matter though, however the real question is does this mean Detox is finally making its way to the surface? I have faith! Check out the song below.

Mixtape: 4eva N A Day (Big K.R.I.T.)

Peace world, hope all is well on your end. This mixtape comes from Mississippi native rapper and producer Big K.R.I.T.(King Remembered in Time). This tape was recommended to me by a show I frequently listen to called The Hip Hop Digest. I heard of this guy but wasn't exactly sure who he was so I decided to check it out. This 17 track tape (which sounds more like an album) talks about what goes on in a day in K.R.I.T.'s life and how he sometimes struggles throughout it. This tape is nostalgic, aggressively soulful and definitely reflects where he is from. The production in it's entirety is smooth and very laid back. It is definitely something you can pop in and just ride to without skipping a track. Track list and download below. If you enjoy this please be sure to check out his album "Live From the Underground" which is said to be coming out this summer.
